I’m Pedge, a Cheltenham-based photographer capturing weddings across Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, and the wider Cotswolds. Why the Cotswolds Is One of the Best Places to Get Married

The Cotswolds is packed with character — rolling countryside, golden-stone buildings, historic venues, warm pubs, barns, farms, elegant hotels, and those famous honey-coloured villages.

It’s no surprise couples travel from all over the world to get married here.

I’ve photographed a whole range of weddings across the Cotswolds, including:

Each venue brings its own personality and style — which makes photographing weddings here such a joy.

This wedding was at the end of September and being local means I know exactly the timing of when the sun goes down and what area it falls.

What to Look For in a Cotswolds Wedding Photographer

Someone with real Cotswolds experience

The landscapes here are unique: warm-toned stone, deep greens, rolling hills, and ever-changing light.

A photographer who knows the area already understands:

  • the best portrait spots
  • which venues catch golden hour
  • where to go if it rains
  • how to use indoor spaces creatively
  • how the light behaves at different times of the year

Local knowledge makes a big difference.

A natural, relaxed style

Most of my couples tell me they want:

  • candid moments
  • honest reactions
  • relaxed portraits
  • warm, natural colours
  • family photos done quickly (without chaos)
  • a photographer who blends in, not directs every second

This is exactly how I shoot — real moments, real connection, nothing staged or awkward.

Someone who makes the day easier

A good photographer is quietly helpful:
supportive in the background, calm when you need it, and organised enough to keep timings flowing.

Your photos should feel stress-free, not like a photoshoot taking over your day.

How I Photograph Cotswolds Weddings

If I had to sum up my style:

  • warm
  • natural
  • documentary-led
  • relaxed but polished
  • Fun!
  • focused on the feeling of the day

I want your gallery to feel like your story, not a Pinterest copy. The Cotswolds lends itself beautifully to this style — the colours, the architecture, the scenery… it all works hand in hand. And I want you to have a good time! You get amazing photos but you don’t feel like you’ve had to be on a modelling shoot all day to achieve them!

Emily & Dan had an awesome summer wedding at one of my favourite wedding venues, Ellenborough Park Hotel.

The weather was gorgeous, the crowd was lively and this was a real family led wedding for the ages – one that had it all going on!

Ellenborough Park is a stunning Cotswolds wedding venue that fits the theme perfectly.

Real Cotswolds Venues I Photograph Often

If you’re browsing venues, here are some places I know well:

  • Manor By The Lake – timeless venue with stunning indoor & outdoor spaces
  • The Pear Tree Purton – modern, bright, elegant layout with gorgeous gardens
  • Hare & Hounds – cosy, countryside luxury
  • Ellenborough Park Hotel – a romantic and luxurious Cotswolds wedding experience, blending historic charm with bespoke service
  • Marquee & farm weddings – open space, golden light, relaxed vibes
  • Village churches & pubs – perfect for intimate celebrations

Each one offers something completely different.

Why Booking a Local Cotswolds Photographer Helps

When you book someone nearby, you gain:

  • venue familiarity
  • reliable timings (no travel surprises)
  • better seasonal planning advice
  • knowledge of local suppliers
  • confidence in the landscapes and weather
  • someone who genuinely loves shooting here

It becomes easier for both you and your photographer — and that ease shows in the photos.

A pic of me (well my back) taking a group photo of the groom squad for a recent wedding at Manor By The Lake, a wedding venue I tend to shoot at quite a lot.

Being local, I actually have a personal connection to this venue as once upon a time, the former owner of this grand building used this as his house (unreal!), and my Grandad worked for him.

It’s a bit of history that means something to me.

FAQ: Choosing a Wedding Photographer in the Cotswolds

Look for someone whose style matches yours, who has experience in the area, and who makes you feel comfortable. Natural chemistry matters more than people think.

Not essential — but absolutely helpful. I make it my business to arrive earlier to a venue I haven’t shot at before and seek out a co-ordinator or a staff member to give me a quick run-through. Howeve,r this might not be the case for a less confident/ quieter photographer.

In this case, a photographer familiar with the venue already knows where to shoot, where the best light is, and how to plan around the space.

Relaxed, natural storytelling works beautifully here. The landscapes and stone buildings love soft, warm tones and candid moments. England isn’t the driest country on earth so you need to be able to embrace whatever setting you are in, with enthusiasm and positivty.

Every season offers something unique:

  • Spring – fresh greens, blossoms, soft light
  • Summer – long evenings and outdoor ceremonies
  • Autumn – warm colours and cosy, golden tones
  • Winter – candlelight and dramatic indoor spaces

It’s more about the vibe you want, not the calendar.

Most weddings here suit 8–10 hours. Enough to cover prep through to dancing without feeling rushed. However, with me, I’ll stay around as long as there is still a buzz.

Useful for:

  • bigger weddings
  • separate morning prep
  • packed schedules
  • venues with lots of moving parts

But not essential for all days.

Popular dates book 12–18 months ahead. But it’s always worth checking as cancellations and weekday weddings often open up.

Just head to my contact page and send a message. I’ll come back to you with availability, pricing, and everything you need to know.
