The History of The Matara Centre
The Matara Centre, nestled in the heart of Tetbury, Gloucestershire, boasts a rich history that serves as a fascinating backdrop to the wedding occasions it hosts. Established in 2002 by Geoffrey Higgins, who was inspired by his eastern travels, the Matara Centre is a symbol of harmony and tranquillity, adorned by serene gardens and ponds. The venue’s name ‘Matara,’ meaning ‘Point of Focus,’ brilliantly encapsulates its unique purpose. The venue is situated in Kingscote Park, amidst 28 acres of beautiful parkland that was bought in 1992, while the principal building, the Regency Home, was built in 1814. Brimming with diverse architecture, the Centre homes the unique, Grade II-listed Hilarium building, a tribute to the site’s heritage. Every element, from the wisteria-adorned Cloistered Courtyard to the Asian-influenced garden design, fuses seamlessly to form a setting steeped in history and charm. The Matara Centre is more than just a wedding venue; it is an expression of cultural confluence and enduring history, offering visitors a serene oasis in the picturesque Cotswold, while remaining a beacon of peace and unity in the 21st century. The Matara Centre encapsulates over two centuries of history whilst providing an idyllic setting for countless love stories yet to unfold.

Located in the heart of the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, Tetbury is a charming and historic wool town known for its quintessentially English appeal. This small but incredibly picturesque town is a treasure trove of architectural and natural beauty, nestling amidst rolling green landscapes and meticulously preserved tradition. Tetbury is renowned for its 17th and 18th-century buildings, royal connections, and well-kept, traditional English gardens. Besides the fact that you are getting a highly professional, experienced, and creative photographer who will capture all of the special moments of your wedding day, family and friends, you are getting someone that goes in to each wedding knowing that every couple is unique and that all weddings deserve their own twist and personality, rather than be provided a conveyor belt experience. I take great pride to subtly merge into your day and to be approachable for all your guests. The Cotswolds is an area I grew up in and I am all too familiar with everything the region has to offer.
